iPad screen goes black intermittently

My iPad Wi-Fi + 3G has been working fine until recently. After I unlocked and while used any application, the screen suddenly goes black. Then I pressed the home button and the screen returns but the app I was using closed. My friend has the same intermittent problem both while using apps and when logging in. Any idea about how to stop this from happening on the iPad?Try the steps to fix it.
